A little bit about our Par-Tea hostess!
Sylvia, a Southern California native raised in the San Gabriel Valley, graduated from Pasadena City College in 2019 before transferring to UCLA, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy in 2021. In December, she joined Caltech as an Administrative Assistant in the Electrical Engineering department, where she supports Professors Victoria Kostina, Michelle Effros, and Babak Hassibi.

While of Chinese descent, Sylvia's parents grew up in Vietnam and escaped with their families after the war. This pivotal experience, coupled with their roots, gave her a multicultural upbringing that combines Cantonese-Chinese and Chinese-Vietnamese influences. It wasn't until she worked at her family's restaurant that Sylvia began to deeply connect with and immerse herself in her cultural heritage.
