Guruswami (Ravi) Ravichandran, John E. Goode, Jr. Professor of Aerospace and Professor of Mechanical Engineering, as well as Director of GALCIT, has been awarded the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Warner T. Koiter Medal. He received the medal, “for outstanding scientific, engineering, and mentoring contributions in the areas of ultra-high strain rate mechanics of ceramics and metals, and pioneering and innovative experiments to advance our understanding of coupled phenomena in the fields of smart materials and cellular mechanics.”
The Warner T. Koiter Medal is bestowed in recognition of distinguished contributions to the field of solid mechanics with special emphasis on the effective blending of theoretical and applied elements of the discipline, and on a high degree of leadership in the international solid mechanics community. Professor Ravichandran received the medal during the 2014 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition which was held between November 14-20, 2014 in Montreal, Canada. He also delivered the 2014 Koiter Lecture titled, “Peeling of Heterogeneous Adhesive Tapes,” on November 18, 2014.
