A new book, Scarcity in the Modern World, examines how concerns about the scarcity of environmental resources such as water, food, energy and materials have developed, and subsequently been managed, from the 18th to the 21st century. The book is co-edited by Dr. Neil Fromer, Professor John Brewer, and their colleagues from University of Chicago and University of London. It brings together scholars from a variety of academic disciplines to provide an innovative multi-disciplinary perspective that corrects previous scholarship which has discussed scientific and cultural issues separately. Other Caltech contributors to the book include Professors David Rutledge and Jean-Laurent Rosenthal.
