IQIM Postdoctoral and Graduate Student Seminar
Abstract: In this informal talk, I will discuss efforts to understand recent breakthroughs in constructing "good" low-density parity check (LDPC) codes from a physics perspective. I will describe how these codes can be understood in the language of gauge theories, familiar from high energy and condensed matter physics, and unpack various "product constructions" for obtaining these codes. I will also briefly discuss the thermodynamics and dynamics of these codes.
Lunch will be provided, following the talk, on the lawn north of the Bridge Building.
